Takoma Park Area Tennis
– All Ages - Tots to Adults
– All levels - Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
– Form, Fitness, & Fun, & a little bit of challenge
I provide classes, private & semi-private lessons utilizing modern teaching with “quickstart” or "10 and under" tennis (larger/slower balls, smaller racquets) training aides & video analysis, and a Montessori flavor. I also hold occasional free clinics and playdays, and provide racquet stringing service & other tennis equipment and consulting.
I have been playing and/or teaching tennis for over 16 years. The teaching tennis part is a little bit new (7yrs+), but I am a natural teacher and bring experience as a boys and girls basketball coach, parent, cooperative school instructor, and summer camp counselor and leader. I have been coaching independently and with the Takoma Park Recreation Department, Montgomery County Tennis and Education Foundation, Washington International School, Locario's Tennis Center (on Cape Cod) and Washington Tennis and Education Foundation (owner and beneficiary of the Legg Mason/CitiOpen tournament).

My name is Sat Jiwan Iklé-Khalsa, “Sot 'Jee Vin” or “Coach SJ”
-- about Moving Forward Tennis
Coach SJ (Sat Jiwan) is a gentle, attentive, and adaptive tennis teacher, meeting students where they are at. He brings a “Montessori” approach to coaching, challenging students to “move forward” and progress at their own rate; combining instruction for technique, fitness and the mental game… and FUN! At all levels, some specialized training equipment will be used: Visual targets, bigger/softer/slower balls and smaller nets/racquets, footwork ladder, ball machine, 10-and-under/quick start tennis concepts, and video analysis. Coach SJ brings over 17 years of competitive tennis playing, over 7 years tennis teaching experience, along with basketball coaching, camp counselor and parenting experience.
"Moving Forward Tennis / Sat Jiwan embodies a rare combination of the positive aspects of tennis (health, fun, mental focus, etc.) with sustainability and creativity. As an independent thinker recommitted to tennis, his knowledge, accessibility and work ethic welcome all kinds of people at all tennis levels to grow and enjoy! Pura vida." --Jeff Goldman (tennis player and fan since 1979) and social justice advocate on Elm Ave
"My daughter and her friend happened upon a free tennis clinic by coach SJ last Sunday at the TPMS tennis courts. He did a really nice job of sparking their interest. He had lots of creative games and skill building exercises that kept them quite engaged. I recommend." - Jamey on Boston Ave
